Make A Hole 30:15

about

Three years ago, Mic and Nikolai were shellshocked by the appalling attempt to subvert democracy. On January 7, 2021, the day after the failed insurrection, we recorded this track at Scrap Drive Studios. At the time we strongly felt this could be one of the last songs we ever made as our nation was almost lost in a perfect storm of ignorance, bigotry, hatred, and greed. This modern Beer Hall Putsch can happen again if we do not guard fiercely against it, the next time it’ll be our Reichstag fire.

The title track of this album is “Make a Hole,” in reference to the phrase being shouted in the halls of Congress after the former DC Air National Guard “Capital Guardians” unit member and disgraced traitor Ashli Babbit was shot by a true guardian of the Capitol. A member of the armed forces who was once a senior airwoman sworn to protect the United States and defend the capital in case of civil unrest - became a domestic enemy of the Constitution herself after being smothered in a dragnet of misinformation and online conspiratorial radicalization. The first two tracks sampled the Congressional session on the day of January 6th before the breech itself. The percussion samples in the title track were all from that lone, solitary gunshot recorded from multiple cameras, and the spoken samples were taken from news clips and phone videos from that horrifying day, including Ashli Babbit’s own incriminating words as she livestreamed herself marched on the Captiol.

This is quite possibly our most violent and uncomfortable recording yet, a catharsis of the fear these domestic terrorists brought to our doorstep. We do not make political statements often, we rarely incorporate spoken word in our art (including samples),

This November, we need you to make another hole, in the heart of fascism itself. It CAN happen here - if we let it. We don't have paper ballots anymore so you can't physically make a hole in a punchcard, but by voting you are perforating the foundation of autocracy.

Fuck Trump. Fuck MAGA. Fuck Project 2025. Fuck fascism. Not in our country. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Make A Hole!

Industrial Grade Acid Washington, D.C.

Mic Litter and Nikolai Koppernick have been recording stream of consciousness jamming sessions with a revolving door of gear for over a dozen years. Along with occasional guest musicians, our sonic onslaughts range from mechanical percussion and howling analog synths to ethereal effects, digital distortion, tape manipulation, feedback loops, and ambient droning. ... more
